Arts and Crafts Classes: Proposal for 12-14 year olds
w Lesson I
Sketching: The children are introduced to different art media and a discussion is pursued about what the summer school art classes will consist of. As their first activity, they get to test the waters with sketching on drawing paper. They can use pencil, charcoal sticks, and chalk pastels of various colours to sketch freely at first. The focus will be mainly on shading with these mentioned medias. They may also choose to go ahead and sketch some still life of their choice.
Supplies needed:
o Drawing paper
o Pencils, charcoal, chalk pastels
w Lesson II + Lesson III
Leaves: the next media that the kids get to experiment with is acrylics. They start off by pasting a leaf onto a white drawing paper and painting a copy of the leaf next to it. They get to experiment both with the media and with drawing and painting detail.
Supplies needed:
o Leaf
o Scotch tape
o Pencil
o Acrylic paints
o Paint brushes
Graphs: This next activity takes the rest of lesson II and the whole of lesson III to complete. The children work on canvases for the first time here...
