Effective leaders are people from among us with some remarkable qualities. Whether they are a business leader, or a leader of a country, to be effective they have to have qualities that are as rare as the men and women who poses them. Almost every leader to be effective has to show courage and a lots of it. Franklin D. Roosevelt's decision in 1941 to take America to war was a courageous one. He knew that American lives will be lost, and victory could not be guaranteed, yet he went to war and came out triumphantly.
Risk is another factor that comes with every decision. Though risk could be calculated as in Napoleon's words "two thirds of the decision-making process is based on analysis and information, and one third is always a leap in the dark." (1) An ordinary leader might survive a poor risk analysis, but he or she can not remain effective or in power if they are not intelligent. General Pervaiz Musharraf's leadership, who came to power through a coup d'etat has been under constant threat, but so far through his good judgement he has come out triumphantly...
