Zora Neale Hurston was born to John and Lucy Hurston on January 7, 1891 in Notasulga, Alabama. She was black. Hurston only lived there for about a year or two before moving to Eatonville, Florida. Most of Hurston's childhood was spent living in this small, all black town. Unfortunately, when Hurston was 13 her mother died. Hurston's father remarried soon after, to a woman Hurston did not like. Her father took Hurston out of school and made her care for her younger brother. This life style did not suit Hurston's wishes, so she left home.
When Hurston was 16 she became a member of a traveling theater. To get by, Hurston worked as a maid in a white household...
