In Chapter 5 of Congress Reconsidered and in Malbin and Bedlington the discussion of campaign finance reform is discussed. In Chapter 5 it states the Federal Election Campaign Act and amendments which I feel that this is contradictory. There are many loop holes in the system where a candidate, individual, interest groups, and PAC's can contribute money to. Why is there such an Act when money can be funneled through the system? The authors clearly explained their arguments, but I still see inconsistencies to the way money is contributed.
Malbin and Bedlington discuss the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, and again, I am confused on how money can be raised with several types of restrictions. The system of limiting or restricting the money seems ambiguous and confusing; there is a lot of red tape to consider.
It is clearly seen that to win an election you have to pull together the financial means. This is effect causes contributors to compete in how much they will give to the campaign, but in way that is legal and in the confines of the laws. Trying to understand campaign finance reform is extremely important in understanding the Congress because it is how they are essentially elected into office...
