Cognitive Psychology
In this essay the cognitive approach to psychology shall be discussed. This shall include the main aims and applications of it to everyday life. Also several limitations of the cognitive approach shall be stated.
The cognitive approach was formed to claim that internal processes are just as important as environmental factors. Behaviourists appeared to be 'narrow-minded' by psychology thus the basis of cognitive psychology.
The main aims of the cognitive approach are to study the mental processes of humans. This includes such processes as the memory and thinking. Its main focus is to determine how a person behaves through their concept of interpreting knowledge etc.
Jean Piaget, a cognitive psychologist based his research on children and their changes to adulthood. He felt that children's concepts of their surroundings, the world etc...
