In the play the "Mother Figure" Alan Ayckbourn shows us three major conflicts between the characters of the play.
The first conflict is the internal conflict being displayed by Lucy. In the opening minutes of the play she is depicted as a harassed mother, taking care of her three children. The phone rings and the door bell rings but Lucy is too pre occupied in her domestic chores even to answer them. The noise and quarreling sounds from her children distract her endlessly and make her a restless figure-"Not until you've drunk that up there isn't. come on rosemary. Help Terry to drink it."
The second conflict is the one between Rosemary and her husband Terry...
