There are many theological issues that can be discussed in the Sarah and Hagar narrative. A Theologian would question certain biblical text only to further their understanding of God. In this research paper, I shall interpret the theological messages in this story and briefly give the historical verity of it.
Hagar is Sarah's Egyptian slave girl, whom Sarah gives to Abraham as a wife who would bear a child that would be considered Sarah's. Although it bears a resemblance to modern surrogate motherhood, this custom may seem bizarre. However, cuneiform texts of the second and first millennia B.C.E attest to this custom in ancient Mesopotamia.
