Pierrot Lunaire by Schoenberg
Written in 1912, Pierrot Lunaire by Schoenberg is rather progressive. The twenty one melodramas, so called by the composer is in three sections. It is based on a cycle by Albert Giraud and which was rewritten by Otto Erich Hartleben. The contrasting colors and tonality make up this innovative piece. In addition, Schoenberg's diverse choice of instruments add to the necessary ingredients needed to make this work distinctive.
