What constitutes the way we look at female athletes?
Women have struggled through the years about their bodies. In the early 1900's they were not allowed to show any body parts while competing in sport. This got me thinking, how do we as a society view the female body, in a sports aspect as well. Women are looked upon as pro-creators, this is their only function in life, but over and over again women prove this theory wrong. Women face sexual harassment more than men because of their bodies, what exactly is the idea behind this all?
Breaking this down to a very simple idea, we as a species have a mind and body dualism going on, the two work in unison. The body is said to be the lesser of the two, and when identifying women with their bodies they are inferior to men. This takes us to body images, which are multidimensional, meaning there are many factors that take place. Such as attitudes, and perceptions, the idea of perceptions is very key...
