Should a loved one who is terminally ill and suffering be forced to live when imploring for death? This question has been a moral issue plaguing the human race. This issue of euthanasia has been made clear by the commandment of the government that assisted suicide is indeed a crime and punishable if the act is committed. However, there are many individuals, such as my self, who feel that the right to die should be the choice of the terminally ill and suffering, and not by the will of the government and machine. I therefore believe that the assistance of someone who has made the decision to end his or her own life should be made a legalized practice and that sustaining the life of someone who is suffering and beseeching for death is inhumane.
To understand why assisted suicide should be legalized, the question of why people seek out this last resort must be answered. . "Patients appear to request assisted suicide for psychological and existential reasons: they value control, dread dependence on others, are ready to die, and assess their quality of life as poor." (Ganzini, 113) The assistance of suicide is sought out also by people who are suffering from an incurable degenerative disease. This act is furthermore sought by those who, with a sound mind, feel that their life will become dehumanized and undignified when being tied to machines...
