Critique/Analysis
B+
The scriptwriter of the movie was a genius. ... These motives of the movie seem to portray what Hitler’s perception on the perfect race, except it is based more on genetic superiority rather than the Aryan race. This movie has also shown the negative downside of what genetic engineering will completely change the idea of what a human being is.
The effect of the lighting and colors used in the movie gives us the impression of a dull and glum world. The science fiction/thriller theme blends well with the appearance of the movie. ... It really helps you feel the emotion within the movie. ... The soundtrack fits perfectly in the movie. ...
Overall, the movie was good. ... The only weakness of this movie was the use of modern technological concepts like the cars and the computers weren’t that great. ...
Review Questions
Question A
Ethics: Because of the setting in the modern society, where human genetics matter, the movie contains ethics which are completely different to what the ethics in our society. For example how the discrimination between “valids” and “invalids” were clearly seen in the movie. ...
Epistemology: In the society that the movie is set, the theory of knowledge is not present, since everything that is present in the world can be explained by science, and each individual has his or her data on computer.
Ontology/Metaphysics: The theory of a ultimate being present only exists in the first part of the movie, where the camera focuses on the rosary beads being held by Vincent’s mother during labor, this emphasizes on the “faith-child” term as they call it, where the baby was conceived and born, using more of a chance, then full knowledge of how the baby will turn out to be. Throughout the movie, the presence of a higher being does not exist.
I think that the movie emphasizes more towards the moral ethics in the society. All I see in the movie is how Vincent struggles to survive in a world where ethics in society does not appreciate “invalids”.
