Many of the world's earliest civilizations were impacted by salt. Archeologist have come to the conclusion that the "primitive man" first encountered salt thousands of years ago. It is said that they retrieved their salt by lake's edge, by means of evaporation. Many of the early empires and tribes varied in the ways of getting salt. For example, the early Chinese used bamboo pipes as pumps to get salt form wells. The Germanic tribes got their salt by soaking logs in sea water, and then burning the logs until salt arose on the surface of the logs. Relic found in Belgium caves tell us the people have used salt dating back to five thousand years ago. People such as the Egyptians used their salt to prepare dead bodies of famous people during the process of mummification. It is said that the Egyptians got their salt from extracting water from the Nile Delta , and evaporating it, however it is also said that their original form of getting salt was by scraping the desert lake beds. Even the Trojans used salt to prepare fish three thousand years ago...
