A Raisin in the Sun explores the depths of the human personality. Hardships of modern times are far less “hard” than those from long ago. This has caused people to become softer regarding certain events. This is evident in A Raisin in the Sun. The novel shows how Lena Younger is better equipped to handle the difficult times than her children, who are from a less agitated time. This shows a contrast in the ability to cope among younger and older people. Lena Younger, Walter’s mother, is a strong willed, old-fashioned woman. Lena desires to help in any way possible. Her life is simple and her desires are pure.
