The period from 1890 to 1914 was known has the Progressive Era; the United Sates was especially progressing econmically during this time. With industrialization, the U.S. needed raw materials and more places to sell its industrial products. Americans intended to exert their influence beyond the continental U.S., to reach more space, more land, more markets, and more international power. Thus, the United States foreign policies from 1890 to 1914 were principally guided by economic motives.
