Introduction
When considering placing an NBA team in Mexico City there are many factors that one has to consider. First is the Mexico City government ready to support such a venture. Second is the Mexican economy ready to support an NBA team. Would the population support a new team in their city.
Mexico City and its Economy
Mexico City's population grew throughout the 20th century and is still growing today due to a high birth rate and migration from other provinces. As you can see from the graph the population is now over 25 million in the city this is larger then most of the NBA market cities in the United States. The Mexican population is very supportive of its sports teams as well. Averaging over 100,000 fans at home soccer matches.
However, even though the Mexico City population is so large there is an extremely high poverty level. Nevertheless, with the help of the World Bank Group the income per capita is rising, the illiteracy rate is falling, and thus the poverty level is falling as well...
