Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali was born May 11, 1904 in a small town of Figueres, Catalunya, Spain and he died on January 23, 1989 of heart failure. Salvador Dali was a writer, a sculptor, and an experimental film-maker but he was probably best known for his paintings. As a child Dali was exposed to the movements and styles of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism and Futurism (Salvador Dali). In 1929 he made his first Surrealist film and then joined a Surrealist group where he met Gala Eluard, a surrealist poet, who eventually became his wife. Eluard was the influence behind many of Dali's Surrealist paintings. As a surrealist artist, Dali would use fantastic dream imagery placed side by side in order to create landscapes that would represent the unconscious thoughts of his inner world.
