The Perfect System
Considered to be the perfect end to a perfect season, the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Miami Hurricanes in double overtime at this year's National Championship. On January 3rd of this year, these two teams played in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl at Sun Devil stadium. Miami and Ohio State were the only two undefeated teams left of the six conferences making up the Bowl Championship Series so they were invited to play in the National Championship game. The game was witnessed by millions of people world wide on television, and before a capacity crowd at Sun Devil stadium. The people that tuned in were not disappointed; they witnessed a historic came between two perennial powerhouses of college football. Unfortunately, there had to be a loser and the Hurricanes were on the losing end, snapping a thirty four game winning streak.
RANKING SYSTEMS
There are two hundred and forty teams that compete in division one college football; this encompasses twenty six conferences and multiple independent schools. The Bowl Coalition Series (BCS) is a group of six large conferences in college football that have pulled together and developed a system to allow the best two college football teams in the United States to play in the final National Championship game. The six conferences are guaranteed to have one team from there conference play in one of the four bowl games; the other remaining spots can be filled by any division one football team. If a an independent school or school from a conference that is not part of the BCS is ranked in the top six teams in the BCS standings, it will qualify for a spot in one of the BCS series games...
