Causes of the Cold War

Fought between Russia and America, the Cold War was a fight to influence the countries of Europe. This war lasted over 55 years and ended in the fall of Communist Russia. There was no actual fighting, hence 'cold' war as opposed to a 'hot' war. A political tug-of-war developed between the two nations over the European continent each trying to spread their superiority through propaganda, economic and military assistance. In the end, neither country succeeded in their goals nor was Europe dominated.
Political issues played a huge role in causing this war. Each country felt that their type of government was superior to all others and this created an untrustworthy nature with Russia and America. Although they had been allies in World War II, both countries were worried that the other was trying to undermine them. However, because they were allies so shortly before, political issues were not the only cause of the Cold War.
History recalls that right at the end of the war Stalin pushed back Hitler's troops far into Eastern Europe...
