Norman Rockwell's views on the contemporary family are much different than those of today's society. He expressed this type of acquired bond as happy and loving, involving many emotional connections that are all relative to one another. Society, in turn, creates a visualization of family gatherings, loving children, a pride filled home, and overall happiness involved in this bond. This can only be described as wishful thinking in the sense that not all families operate this way. In my opinion, the contemporary family is defined only by the organization and implementation of five key elements: emotional connections, roles, resource dependency, type of lifestyle, and most importantly, the overall integrity of the family.
Emotional connections are a fundamental characteristic that is associated with the contemporary family. The presence of these bonds plays a key role in creating what is considered an acceptable family environment, and family members share a love for one another, along with a trust that is hard to destroy. The organization of these emotional connections are the key determinates involved in the forming of specific roles within a family.
It is ultimately understood that in a family the parents provide for the child. Food, clothes, money, and all other luxuries of life are generously given, without a parent's expectation for anything in return, other than love...
