The Manhattan Project

On August 6, 1945 a plane named the "Enola Gay" dropped a nuclear bomb known as "Little Boy" on the city of Hiroshima, Japan. Even though the bomb missed the targeted bridge by 550 feet it still destroyed the bridge, and a large portion of the city. An estimated 66,000 people died instantly, and 69,000 were severely wounded. However by the end of the year 1945 an additional 140,000 people had died from radiation poisoning. In the next six years 60,000 more people were sent to their graves by radiation poisoning.
On August 9, 1945 another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan. This one was delivered by a plane named "Bocks Car," and the bomb was called "Fat Man." This second bomb was more powerful than the one dropped on Hiroshima. The bomb missed its target by a mile because the cloud cover was dense, and the plane's fuel was too low for them to keep flying over the target...
