Of mice and men

Of Mice and Men Essay Life in a great society, or for that matter in a small, is a web of tangled relations of all sorts, whose adjustment so that it may be endurable is an extraordinarily troublesome matter. (Learned Hand, The Spirit of Liberty 1959) One interpretation of society is all the people and their interactions between one another, and how each one fits in. Society plays a big role in the novel Of Mice and Men. Lennie showed how being different can make you and outcast, George showed that just being a normal good worker could fit him in society, and Curly’s wife showed that being a female can also make you and outcast. In the novel, Steinbeck symbolizes the ranch as a miniature version of society. Lennie being mentally retarded, George being a good worker, and Curly’s wife being lonely gives a good example of how society is, and how each one fit in.
