Marriage, the word alone can have a wide array of definitions depending on who you are and where you live in the world. In America the word brings a couple stereotypes to mind, and which stereotype you follow depends on what sex you are. For a young woman growing up in America marriage is the most extravagant connection possible, the fantastic dream to meet the man who will cherish every step taken and provide unconditional love until the day you are released from this world. While on the other hand men hope the most beautiful woman god has ever created will be there to care for him and love him irregardless of any situation that may occur. Most of us understand these stereotypes because they have been infuse into our minds though television, our family, and the media. Given this idea we can see clearly why there were 4.1 million divorces in the year 2000 alone (National Vital Statistics Report). The old fashion concept that we marry for love has taken a whole new turn, today couples are marrying out of greed, desperation, false hopes, and pressure. We want so much for the "prince and princess" marriage to occur that way we lose our perception on what is the mature rational decision to make regarding a life long relationship.
