From a neighborhood restaurant established in Des Plaines, Illinois in 1955 to more than 28,000 restaurants in 120 countries worldwide. That's the brief story behind McDonald's becoming the world's largest quick service restaurant organization. What begun as an acquisition of rights of a tiny hamburger chain based in San Bernardino, California by owner Ray Kroc, became one of the worlds' classic modern success stories. With perseverance and dedication to its strict standards and promise to provide customers with consistent quality, service, cleanliness and value (QSC&V), McDonalds has become one of the greatest forces in the quick-serve industry of today. You can go to a McDonalds in New York, Nigeria, New Zealand, Singapore and Newham. In 1955 the first McDonalds opened. Now a new McDonalds opens every 6 hours.
However, despite McDonalds phenomenal growth through the years, current events paint a different picture for the future of McDonalds as a successful global enterprise. With the depressed US market seeing sales at its hamburger restaurants fell in April for the 14th straight month this year the world's largest restaurant company with more than 30,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries, has been facing increased competition in the United States and weaker economies abroad. And with the onslaught of SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome hurting its sales in Asia, the road ahead might not be as smooth as those before...
