A. Attention Getter: According to the National Cancer Institute, each year 434,000 people die of illnesses related to their smoking. But smokers are not the only ones whose health can suffer. Secondhand smoke is estimated to cause 3,000 lung cancer deaths annually and 35,000 heart disease deaths in non-smokers each year.
B. Thesis: There is a major controversy today surrounding the issue of smoking in public places. I am here to convince you that smoking should be banned in all public places to ensure a healthier society.
