September 8, 2003 University 1234 Charles Street Dear Someone: As a new student attending the University, I was informed by my academic advisor that I was required to take an Idea in Writing course. That statement was a huge shock to me seeing that I took both English 101&102 at the collage that I previously attended. After I got over the initial shock, I decided to take the class my first semester while all the information was still fresh and current in my head. From this course I expect to polish up my writing skills and hope to train myself to read and retain information at a faster pace. In the past I have had problems with grammar and writing thesis statements, hopefully I could further improve upon these skills so that I could continue to be successful in my college career. Because this is an upper level college course I expect there to be a lot of reading and papers to write; it is something that I am not happy about but I have no choice but to get used to it.
