Alfred Russell Wallace
A. Wallace is probably one of the most overlooked theorist of his time. Overshadowed by Darwin's theories, Wallace still played an essential role in the world's modern day theories of evolution and natural selection.
Alfred Wallace was born in Monmouthshire on January 8 1823. His childhood was hectic, being forced to withdrawal from grammar school and move in with his older brother john. He survey's West England and Wales for a number of years, until he is hired as a master at the Collegiate School in Leicester. Beginning in 1848 he leaves the UK for the Amazon with a man named Bates to start a natural history collection expedition. Over the next few years he goes on many expeditions and begins to formulate his ideas on natural selection. In 1858 he sends his idea's to Darwin for review, in turn without permission Darwin {who viewed his career in a slump at the time} published Wallace's ruff draft.
