Flonase and Allergic Rhinitis
Allergic rhinitis is a prototype of IgE-mediated disease (see IgE photo), manifesting as a biphasic response to both seasonal (mold, pollen) and perennial (dust mites, animal dander) allergens. ... At this stage of rhinitis, pharmacological treatment is essential in relieving patient discomfort and often includes corticosteroids. Corticosteroids are considered first-line therapy for this allergic inflammation.
Intranasal corticosteroid preparations have made a significant impact on the treatment rhinitis ever since the introduction of beclomethasone dipropionate in1973. In 1990, Flonase was introduced. Flonase is an anti-inflammatory nasal spray used to relieve the nasal symptoms associated with rhinitis. The active ingredient in Flonase is fluticasone propionate, which is a trifluorinated corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and anti-asthmatic therapeutic responses.
