Classical Literature
In our Classical unit we read pieces of literature that contained specific traits that define Classical literature. Some of these were gods, heroism, and drama. In The Odyssey Helios, god of the sun and Zeus, king of the gods were just two of the gods that Homer used in his book. Helios' island is where Odysseus and his men stop at to rest during their journey. After defying the orders given by the gods to refrain from eating the cattle, Odysseus' men were killed by Zeus. In the story Odysseus notes how events are predetermined by forces beyond mankind. In Oedipus the King Oedipus met with Apollo to find out what he could do to save the city. Apollo used the Oracle of Delphi to predict the future to Creon who reported it back to Oedipus. Zeus, the king of the gods had control over all people and could punish them however he wanted. Heroism was another trait used in this unit...
