If we are what we wear then we are preoccupied with the wrong things. People spend way too much time worrying about how they are presented to people physically. Yes it is good to look presentable, but we have lost personalities and people are simply judged on what they look like. I believe that people use clothes as a sort of status symbol, to show others how well off they are. Their peers in turn approach the situation as such; predetermining whom a person is with out even saying “hello”. The essay, “If We Are What We Wear, Then What Are We?” by Allison Young, starts by explaining the enjoyment the writer gets when buying new clothes.
