CEO (Chief Executive Officer)
The CEO of a major record label generally oversees the business affairs of all affiliated labels under their corporate umbrella. They are responsible for funding corporate overhead expenses, as well as assembling a management team.
PRESIDENT
The President is responsible for providing vision, leadership, structure, and communication systems for all of the label employees in order for them to perform effectively in their roles.
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT
Under the President of the individual label, there are many vice presidents in charge of different departments that we will see listed below.
BUSINESS AFFAIRS
This department looks after all the finances of the label as well as bookkeeping and payroll.
LEGAL DEPARTMENT
This group is responsible for all contracts that are made between the artist and the record label, as well as contracts between the label and other companies. Any legal issues that arise go through this department.
A&R (Artist and Repertoire)
The A&R department is responsible for discovering and signing new talent. They assist the talent with song selections, choosing a producer and choosing a recording studio. The A&R department also communicates with the label's Business Affairs department to ensure that all the accounting issues and paperwork for the act's record are set up properly...
