Growing up in a poor country must be very hard for teenagers to pursue a dream. Edson Arantes Nascimento, also known as "Pele", grew up in Tres Coracos, Brazil. Pele had a dream to become the best soccer player in the world. That dream became a reality when he was named in the year 2000 for the "Sportsman of the Century" award.
Pele was born on October 23, 1940 in the city of Tres Coracos, Brazil. There he was raised by his mother and father, Dondinho and Celeste. Pele's father Dondinho was an ordinary center forward until his career shattered due to a fractured leg. Pele learned the game of soccer from his father from then on. Since Dondinho could not play anymore he, in a way, played through his son. Dondinho taught his son Pele everything he knew...
