The following unit plan is devised for teaching a 10th grade English literature and composition classroom. The unit is meant to span over a three week, 15-day class duration; the classes will last 90 minutes a day. The theme of this unit, "Readings in the Mysterious and Dark", falls at the end of a nine-week unit that helps students discover the depth of human spirit. There are two other components that comprise this over all theme: "Relationships: Family, Friends, and the Community" and "Individualism: What Makes Me Who I Am." The first three-week unit delves into how people are shaped by the relationships possessed in our world. It details what people learn from our family, friends, and others around us, and why it is important to have these relationships. The second unit moves from the grand scope of outward relations to the inside, moving into the individual, highlighting the differences everyone has, and celebrating ourselves. "Readings in the Mysterious and Dark" moves even deeper into the psyche, exploring the darkside of the imagination, humanity, and the unexplainable. Stories of the darkside of the mind and the strange grip reader's imaginations, and we ultimately find out more about ourselves.
Great many things about our world are factual...
