When one watches the news one expects an update on important information, but instead one may find a Hollywood celebrity's court date. Are topics like these really important? Probably not when the Iraq war is raging. Topics based on national and foreign affairs, sports, education, scientific advancements, and religion are topics that seem important to the viewer. In watching the national and local newscasts, I found that they can be compared and contrasted on the basis of the topics covered, how each deals with topics, and the style of the newscasters and setting.
The national and local news differed in how important each topic was. The national newscast contained many stories about celebrities' personal lives. One story consisted of Queen Latifah, an African American rapper, caught driving under the influence. CNN publicized her court date that was set on December eleventh. While on the other hand, the local ABC news channel was more concerned with news that affected the areas nearby...
