In this essay, I will be explaining the major events that occurred during George Washington's presidency, the Election of 1796 and John Adams' presidency, and the Election of 1800 and how it led to a change in how presidents are elected. Many things went on in not even a full 10 years. Many of these things had a major impact on how our nation functions today, for example, George Washington's terms in office. He only took two terms, and ever since that, todays presidents are only allowed to run for two terms. There are also more things that had an impact on todays living that I will be explaining later.
When George Washington took the oath of office as President on April 30, 1789, he had no idea what he was getting himself into. As the first President, he knew he was setting an example for future generations. During his two terms in office, Washington set many precedents. In 1796, he decided not to run for a third term, which set a precedent that later Presidents followed until 1940. In 1789, Washington realized that he could not run the nation on his own and needed people to help him carry out his duties, so he set up a cabinet...
