The Civil war was the greatest war in American history. 3 million fought
and 600,000 people died. It was the only war fought on American soil by
Americans, and for that reason we have always been fascinated with The Civil
War. Unfortunately during the civil war both the North and South had an
increasing amount of casualties, which was leading to a stalemate between them.
Due to this stalemate in 1860 military strategies had to change. In addition the
economy changed to deal with the cost of war and meet the production needs of
military innovations.
During the stalemate of 1860 many soldiers were dying. Each side had a
great number of casualties and as a result no one was really winning the war. The
North and South both had to change their military tactics in order to reduce the
colossal amount of casualties. Jomini" tactics of drawn up close, parallel lines,
firing away with muskets, and using the bayonet for melee combat led to the death
of many soldiers...
