The crew of the movie "Romeo & Juliet" risked their reputation when they launched this movie, because putting a Shakespearian play into a screenplay is not an easy work, but they made an excellent movie. The movie respects all the dialogues that they use in the screenplay from the original play, making this a more difficult assignment for the movie crew. This movie makes an incredible match to the era and the entire context to which the movie has been adapted. It may seem silly that the screenplay is spoken in Old English of the 16th century, when this is the 20th century. Of course, the screenplay does not match in all aspects of the original play, but the fact is that the movie crew has done their best.
The original Shakespearean play was in the City of Verona, and this screenplay was filmed on Venice Beach, CA; though both cities are represented as "Verona", but the screenplay was not filmed in that city. The objects used in the play were changed for get a better performance, and apply it to today's world. The changes of objects done in the play from the 16th century play to the 20th century screenplay were: the swords are changed for fire arms, the carriages for automobiles, and also the period costume for today's fashions; it is like placing Shakespeare's live in the 20th century, because he based his plays on his times technologies.
If someone reads the Shakespearean play, he is going to imagine all the grimaces of the characters. The movie gives to the people the entire environment, it does not stimulates one's creativity, and it gives you the director's creativity...
