The Green Mile
For my first reaction paper, I chose the movie The Green Mile with Tom Hanks. A few reasons prompted me to watch this film. First, I knew I wanted to write about something that reflected the 1930's in some way. Once I had the selection narrowed down between a few movies that are set during that time, my boyfriend told me what a good movie Green Mile is. He was definitely right; it has become one of my favorite movies from the 20th century.
Green Mile is ultimately about prison life in the 1930's, from the perspective of the inmate as well as the officer. Tom Hanks plays the part of a corrections officer who is in charge of inmates that are waiting on death row. His newest inmate is convicted of the murder of two small girls. Although the man is huge, black, and intimidating, John Coffie makes it very clear that he is as meek as a sheep. John is special in another way, though; he has the power to heal the sick and wounded...
