The Great Celestial Cow Sue Townsend’s The Great Celestial Cow is a play which examines the results of Western Culture when it mixes with the modern world. The play is about a mother, daughter and son who leave India to join the father of the family after being separated for five years. The mother, Sita, is the oppressed woman who is enslaved to the rules and traditions of the Western world. Bibi represents the woman who is trying to break away from tradition and into a life of modernity. Sita’s portrayal of the demoralized woman who is … Sita has just arrived to England and is having trouble rasping her feelings. Her husband, Raj, tell her, “Now come to bed and prove that you are also a wonderful wife.” Raj has no concern of how she is feeling emotionally and physically.
