Importance of Volunteerism and Service Learning

Upon walking into the Travers/Wolfe main lounge, I was presented with the decision as to which service learning experience I would choose. After looking around and visiting various tables for information, I chose the one that looked most interesting and fit my schedule the best. The agency I decided on was the New Jersey Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center. The mission or purpose of this agency was to take donated eyeglasses of all shapes, sizes, and prescriptions and repair and sort them for redistribution. However, the redistribution did not occur in the United States. The eyeglasses were sent to third world countries so that adults and children could see clearly and hopefully make their lives a little bit easier. The agency attempts to achieve its mission entirely through volunteer work. With the combined efforts of the volunteer men and woman who put a significant amount of time into the operation and the helping hands of students from The College of New Jersey, this goal can be reached. The New Jersey Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center works as hard as it can to help less fortunate people with sight problems.
