The Noise Pollution Clearinghouse
Personal water crafts, better know as jet skis, have created enough noise for the Noise Pollution Clearinghouse to form, an organization intended to rid the waters of discomforting noise caused by jet ski motors and movement on water.
The Noise Pollution Clearinghouse's slogan is, "Good neighbors keep their noise to themselves," logically thinking, in order to keep the peace in the neighborhood and not disturb your Sunday evening. The Noise Pollution Clearinghouse then wonders why would you want your time in our public parks destroyed my obnoxious machines thrashing through the water while you are trying to enjoy your hike, picnic, or family time? "A day at the beach is no picnic with the whine of motors in the water," says one supporter who undoubtedly wants jet skis banned from all bodies of water, but since such a ban is highly unlikely, supporters are hopeful for a ban on certain bodies of water, a sort of compromise. Members are encouraged to look at the ban on jet skis, as a way of fighting off noise and gaining back the peace that was once theirs. Emotions run high amongst the group's members who feel cheated and begin to focus on their families, which after all is one of the most important aspects of life. The Noise Pollution Clearinghouse makes you feel that if something isn't done right now, then in a couple of years, every body of water will be so infested with noise emitting jet skis that you will no longer be able to enjoy the outdoors with the ones you hold dear. The group paints an image of everyone in town on the lake closest to you riding away on their brand new jet ski, producing as much noise as possible, while you stand on the shore line, picnic basket and beach ball in hand, with the whole family lined up behind you, all drop-jawed at the outrageous noise that is not going to permit the planned day of fun. This image is a great strategy for getting new members to take a stand against noise pollution because of the sheer fright of possibly loosing peace at your personal favorite wilderness haven, and is also effective in stirring up emotions with current members who feel that the problem is getting much worse. Ethically, the Noise Pollution Clearinghouse persuades members to feel that the jet skis have no purpose if their use prohibits other people from enjoying public grounds...
