3.1. Tea Production
Tea production is concentrated in a few countries as Tea production requires
appropriate climate, soil and availability of cheap labor. India and China rank as the
largest and second-largest players respectively in tea production as well as consumption.
Together they account for around half of world's tea production. Sri Lanka, Kenya,
Indonesia, Turkey and Japan are other major producers of Tea.
World tea production in the last decade has grown at a yearly rate of 1.81 percent
until 1999. In 1999 the world's total tea produce was estimated at 2.83bn Kgs is expected
