Motivation is the single most important thing to me when it comes to working. If there is no motivation in the workforce than how can you as a manager expect things to get done? When I work the thing that keeps me coming back every day is knowing that if I do a good job my boss or manager will come up to me and tell me "Bryan great job, keep up the good work". One very simple comment, which seems to be hard for some people to say. The question I decided to do my essay question on was motivation theories. The reason I chose this question because as a worker I know what motivates us and what doesn't. I also know that if I am working harder than I am expected to that I deserved to be recognized and if I am not than you can't expect me to keep working like that and will decrease my work output, there are some managers out there that don't know how far a little motivation booster like good work can drive a worker.
Motivation refers to the forces either with in or external to a person that arouses enthusiasm and persistence to pursue a certain course of action. ( Daft, Marcic) This is what keeps us going and not giving up the next day. A perfect example how lack of motivation can break someone is, at my old job in a restaurant there was this guy that could do all the things no one else could, but the boss never gave him the credit he deserved and instead just kept giving him orders...
