"December 7, 1941, is a date that will live in infamy." These are the exact words of President Franklin D. Roosevelt as he had just found out about the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The reason for the attack on Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii was do to the fact that the United States cut off all exports to Japan. In the 1930's Japan had begun to expand it's military; its goal was to invade China and Southeast Asia. The United States was against the action and ordered Japan to stop. Japan realized that its economy relied on what it received from the U.S. When General Hideki Tojo became the Emperor in 1941, he decided to try and damage the Naval base of the United States; for only the Navy had the power to cut off the exports.
