Herbert Spencer was known for being sociologist as well as a philosopher. Spencer was an influential figure during the Victorian Era in Britain. He was also a major part of early sociology due to his contribution to the evolutionary theory which caused Spencer and Charles Darwin to become rivals of one another, his defense of human natural rights, as well as philosophy. He also added to these that you cannot know things non empirical such as if there is a God.
As part of Evolution Spencer feels that all phenomena is a process of evolution. He states that homogeneous organisms are unstable and begin simple as they grow more complex with time. However, heterogeneous organisms, and that such evolution constituted a norm for the process. This defiance of evolution served as a complete and 'predetermined' structure for the variations in evolutional thoughts. Spencer better understood evolution with his use of the Lamarckian theory which made him believe that external agencies contributed to the development of all organisms.
