Over the last fifteen years the tourism industry has evolved from a fairly basic industry into a mega multi-faceted business. Nowadays the tourism industry can be broken down into various categories, categories that were virtually nonexistent merely a decade ago. Currently, one of the most popular types of tourism is referred to as eco-tourism. The topic of eco-tourism evolved roughly over the last decade when an environmental friendly focus had been put on the industry. The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) was founded in 1990, and is the largest and oldest colourist organization in the world. Eco-tourism has no specific definition, meaning it is defined in many different ways, however these definitions all contain the same plan and design, which is to prevent harm and damage to the environment. TIES defines eco-tourism as "the responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and sustains the well-being of local people"# Eco-tourism focuses on environmental conservation and sustainability. These eco-touristic objectives are met through environmental education and meaningful community involvement in the tourist regions. To go along with eco-tourism are different concepts that help the prevent environmental damage, two prime examples of this would be the ecohotels or "green" hotels along with ecotechniques.
