Among the first characteristics of His Girl Friday that anyone will notice is the hilarious dialogue. Walter Burns is a smooth-talking news reporter that gets what he wants, and it is enjoyable to watch his manipulation. It is the comedy that keeps the movie from being too serious, and keeps viewers on the edges of their seats.
In addition to humor, the plot and fast action of the film are very entertaining. The breaking news stories throughout His Girl Friday depict the reporting world in its best form: nonstop and ruthless. What better story could there be to report on than a hanging? The setting was undeniably action-packed, and lent itself to suspenseful moments and constant hierarchy of knowledge.
Only one of the scenes come across as cheesy or fake, and the quality of stunts and makeup were done at a level above some of today's movies...
