The museum is housed in a three-floored building. The main exhibit on the first floor is "The Peopling of America," which gives a statistical portrait of the pattern of immigration. Within this large exhibit, there are several interesting concentrations. There are different displays comparing immigration of women vs. med, blacks vs. whites, and differing nations of the world. The second floor has an exhibit entitled "Through the Gates of America." It is comprised of several rooms, each depicting a different aspect of the immigration experience, such as arriving in New York, medical examinations, legal inspections, admission to America or deportation to the homeland, and early life in America. Lastly, the third floor exhibits concentrate on the backgrounds of the immigrants. The displays include clothes and cultural items belonging to the immigrants, giving the visitor a sense of who these people were and what their lives were like...
