Some guidelines about his life and the Elizabethan theatre
He was a member of the Lord Chamberlain's Men Company, which later became the Kings Men. Other play writers of his time include Thomas Kid, Chris Marlowe, Ben Johnson, John Fletcher or John Webster. From 1580 to 1642 there were always two companies playing in or around London. They held performances six times a week. Due to the busy schedule, it became a struggle for audience. In the 1590's a company produced a new play about every 17 days, trying to keep up with the constant demand. The new plays were performed once and then from time to time until they lost their appeal. A play circulated for about ten days. Writers who lived of playwriting had to produce about five or six plays a year. Shakespeare is believed to have written only two plays per year...
