In 1934 William (Bill) France moved to Daytona Beach, Florida with his wife Anne. Thirteen years later France and his associates held the initial organizational meeting for NASCAR on December 14th. On February 21, 1948 NASCAR was formally incorporated. Five years later Bill France proposes the construction of a permanent speedway in Daytona Beach. In the same year France incorporates Bill France Racing Inc. In 1955 Bill France Racing Inc. name is changed to Daytona International Speedway Corporation. Four years following the initial proposal ground is broken on Daytona International Speedway (DIS) in 1957. The first race is held at DIS in 1959.
In 1966 Bill France meets with the mayor of Talladega, Alabama and proposes the construction of Talladega Superspeedway...
