I. Introduction: Good afternoon Mr. McGrath and classmates. I ask you to take a good look and me and make a mental note of what you see.
Chances are you observed that my skin color is white, my eyes are blue and that my hair is blond. While your observations are accurate,
I bet you were not able to see one thing. That is, I am a member of a minority - yes, my birth and subsequent rearing in West Virginia allows me to claim that I am an "invisible minority" according to Lisa Cornwell, an Associated Press writer, in a Feb 2003 article in The Cincinnati Inquirer. Shocking, isn't it? Should I use this minority status to earn points toward admission to an elite college? Do I think this is fair?..
